but it is a big deal. one of the things i talk a lot about on the campaign, making sure that we do fund our public safety departments. we have to make some tough decisions this year, but to me, one of the biggest priorities is making sure that we have our police and firefighters and sheriffs' offices and their budgets fully funded so that we can ensure that public safety does not lag during these budget times. again, in district 2, i do not think it is talked about as much. we are fortunate that we do not have a lot of homicides. we do not have a lot of those types of serious crimes. but the crimes that to happen to matter to the people in district two. so as a local supervisor, it is incumbent upon me, and i take it very seriously to pay attention and make sure we engage with the police and fire department said they are aware of exactly what is happening, but again, i have to tell you that i think we are very lucky with the police infrastructure we have an firefighter infrastructure we have and the office

you can see that it will make a pretty big mess but at least it put out the fire in your house or something like that. so when we want to shut off electricity is when we see an outlet or something smoking, when you smell that burning smell or if you are not really sure or if you do smell gas and it's safe to do so. if i am in the basement with this set up, this sort of ragedy old set up with switches and i smell gas, is it a good idea to be flicking these? no, because there will be a spark. you should get outside and try to ventilate that garage or enclosed area. these contacts, these are one side and they go into the other side here. see how they are in there now? that's a closed switch right there. it's actually a 3 pull switch. there's 3 different pulls to this switch. they are open, now they are closed, if it's closed it should -- that's when you want to turn it on and off, when it's closed, and then open it if you have to. if you smell gas, you've probably got a leak. if the building is collapsed, there's probably going to be a leak. those are the 3 times you want to come out here and

so, again, just to reiterate, i think we have a couple of big questions in front of us. and the numbers that i'm putting out here are not the end of the story as i'm sure every department in this room would tell you they are not adequate to meet the needs that we would prefer to -- the staffing needs that he would prefer to have to deal with this population. you mentioned in your comments up front that in the worst case scenario, if the sheriff's department thinks is a possibility, if this is a much larger impact than the numbers and projections the state have given us, we could end up with a significantly higher jail population. if we do end up bumping up against our capacity, we could be talking about millions and tens of millions -- or $10 million more than this. we also have other needs that are related to this population but that are also a baseline under funding for some of of our criminal justice agencies i think we would all prefer to see if the resources were available to have better staffing ratios for the current population and this new population. but that's
